OMT began trading back in 1928 during the boom of Italy’s industrialised growth, with the creation of the first tanker production lines for road, sea and agricultural transport.
In the post-war period, Italy went through a phase of robust economic and industrial expansion and Tortona – situated at the intersection of the main transport connections between Italy’s major economic centres – became a strategic hub for road transport in the north-west of the country.
In 1955 the company was acquired by a group of local entrepreneurs who renamed it OMT – Officine Meccaniche Tortonesi.
With a new industrial set-up and the consistent development in demand for road, rail and maritime transport vehicles and equipment, the company implemented new strategies, launching new projects and pursuing major technological development.
Thanks to the advanced technological expertise it has developed in the last few decades, OMT has secured a place among the leading tanker manufacturers in Italy.
In August 2008 OMT was acquired by the GAVIO Group as its specialist tanker production arm, and the company is currently controlled by the same industrial group: Autosped G.
OMT has now embarked on a pathway of growth and economic development on the international markets, optimising its production lines and focusing investments on improving technical capacity and quality control.
